Our school journey as a digital learning space has seen many advancements and opportunities for education in a connected world. It is important that students and families are aware of the possible risks that may be encountered and more importantly what to do to keep themselves and their whanau safe, and where to get help should they need it. Schools in partnership with Netsafe are encouraging students to develop safe and responsible online practices to ensure their digital journey is a safe, enjoyable and educational experience.
Keep it Locked - Passwords and Pin codes help protect your child’s profiles and accounts. Set up pins and passwords with them, reinforce that they shouldn't share it with anyone except you
Keep it Private - It’s important to be cautious when sharing personal information such as passwords, address, birth-date, bank account details, school details and anything of a personal nature
Keep it Helpful - Focus on activities that are relevant to school learning objectives
Keep it Real - It can seem like common knowledge to adults, but it is hard for children to understand that not everyone is who they say they are. Talk to your child about invites or conversations with strangers, why this is not safe and how they should handle it
Keep it Friendly - We encourage everyone to be kind and respectful online, and to be careful talking to, or sharing information with, people they don’t know
There are safety rules and guidelines used at school to protect our network, our devices, our users and our information which students, staff and visitors are expected to uphold and follow. For Senior Students, these can be found in the Senior Student User Agreement
