Dear Whānau of Opononi Area School, 

Message from the Board:

Following the appointment of Rosina as our Acting Principal for Term 1, the school embarked on a thorough recruitment journey to select a permanent Principal to lead our beautiful school. We are delighted to share that the process has been successful, and we are excited to announce our new Principal beyond term 1 will be Ms. Rosina Wikaira.

Rosina brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role. With over 20 years of dedication to education, including many years as a Principal, her leadership capabilities are well-established. Her deep-rooted connection to our school as a former student, teacher, and leader, along with her commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi practices, make her a great asset to our school community.

The recruitment process attracted six exceptional applicants, each with varying levels of senior leadership experience and strong connections to the school and/or the Far North community. With the assistance of an external recruitment agency, we ensured a fair and thorough selection process.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the applicants who expressed interest in joining our school leadership team. Your passion for education and dedication to our community are truly commendable.

We look forward to the exciting opportunities and achievements that lie ahead for Opononi Area School.

Please join us in congratulating Ms. Rosina Wikaira on her appointment as our Principal.  We are working on arrangements to formally welcome Rosina with a powhiri, and information will follow in the coming weeks.
